World Wide Pressure Injury Prevention Day 2016
Today is World Wide Pressure Injury Prevention Day, a worldwide event sponsored by the National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel. The aim of the event is to increase national awareness about pressure injuries and how to prevent them, educating the public on this topic.
Launched back in 2013, World Wide Pressure Injury Prevention Day - or WWPIPD - has been growing in recognition over the past few years, becoming more and more popular with governing health bodies across the world. Part of WWPIPD is to set aside time to appreciate the contributions that local health professionals make in terms of preventing pressure sores for the people in their care.
For residential care homes this is an important topic, as many residents with low mobility spend the majority of each day in bed. Pressure sores are caused by the soft tissue losing blood supply, such as when a resident is laid in a certain position for a prolonged period of time. Pressure sores can be incredibly painful and uncomfortable and can take months to heal, so wherever possible it’s important to prevent them.
To help healthcare providers prevent pressure injuries of people in their care, the National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel has created a range of extensive media materials that can be downloaded and used for reference.
At CLH, we offer a wide range of equipment that can be incredibly useful for preventing pressure sores from developing, such as our alternating pressure relieving air mattresses. To see our full range of equipment for preventing pressure sores, visit our website’s ‘products’ section.
