CLH Walkathon Exeter Racecourse
Here at CLH we always want to help where we can. On the 3rd September, the team attended a Walkathon at Exeter Racecourse - raising money for Oakdene Trading Ltd, a company set up for the sole purpose of donating its profits to a local school. The trust is managed by professional staff and backed by local businesses on a voluntary basis, so that they can maximise donations wherever possible. Participating members of the CLH team were: Adrian Bell, Ange Bell, Eddie Bell (Managing Director), Murray Bell, Rowena Bell, Garth Ellis, Christine Leary, John Leary & Yvonne Smuts.
Starting not long after 10am, the majority of the team set off on the walk around the racecourse. Luckily the rain held off, after concerning forecasts of torrential rain. With around 400 people taking part, it was great to see so many supporting such a worthy cause. Three of the team stayed in the marquee to help prepare lunch for everyone, with the options of Buffalo steak, French cuisine, German sausage or Salmon – quite the spread!
Throughout the afternoon there was live music from four local bands, one was part of the Plymouth School, a further two from Somerset and the last from Gloucestershire. It was a great atmosphere, what with people tucking into the delicious food and enjoying themselves.
Then the rain started… which in turn did help raise further funds as there was an auction which meant the activities outside, such as the Bouncy Castle, were a flop so everyone congregated inside. The catalogue ranged from quality bottles to trips to the Scilly Isles – all of which proved popular with the crowd and raised large amounts of money.
The event wrapped up at around 4:40pm and we stayed behind to help clear up. Here at CLH we are extremely proud to have taken part in the Walkathon and raised some money through sponsorship. We all had lots of fun and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, we will be back next year!
